How to be a GLIN Partner|
A Great Lakes Information Network (GLIN) Partner is a Great Lakes-related agency, organization or association in the public or private sector that works with the GLIN project team at the Great Lakes Commission to integrate their web site offerings into the GLIN indices and otherwise promote GLIN.
The GLIN core system logs upwards of 900,000 transactions per month. Since this system serves as a pointer to servers in partner agencies around the region, partners benefit greatly from having their data and information cataloged in the GLIN database and search engine.
Through GLIN, the Great Lakes Commission offers a wide variety of services to its partner agencies:
- Multiple listings in GLINís indices and search engines
- Research and development of new tools for collaboration
- Decision support and publicity tools including listservs, funding information and a regional calendar of events
- Web page design assistance and advice
- Training and demonstrations
- A voice in the future of GLIN through participation in the GLIN Advisory Board
There is no cost or written obligation to be a part of the GLIN partnership, however, each GLIN Partner is expected to do the following:
_ Identify data and information available online via his/her agency's web site that should be incorporated into GLIN.
_ Review the GLIN Site Index on a regular basis and make suggestions to GLIN staff regarding appropriate links to his/her agency's online data and information.
_ Ensure reciprocating links to relevant GLIN topic pages from his/her agency's web pages. Use of the GLIN logo is encouraged.
_ Take advantage of GLIN features such as glin-announce and other GLIN E-mail Lists, Daily News and Site of the Month.
_ Notify GLIN staff of changes on his/her agency's web site, including file additions, deletions or relocations.
_ Monitor GLIN to ensure current delivery of relevant data and information, including regular review of posted data sets and products for their timeliness and continued relevance.
_ Collaborate to deliver data in a coordinated fashion; explore future partnership opportunities with GLIN, and other Great Lakes agencies and organizations, that involve using the Internet to disseminate data.
_ Promote the GLIN partnership within agencies and among colleagues.
_ Support GLIN and its continued development and use by the Great Lakes community and the larger worldwide Internet community.
